When my first grandchild came along I was just beginning to paint again, after a twenty-year hiatus.
The first painting of him was when he was about four, and it still hangs in his mother's house, in his brothers' and sisters' playroom.
Now there are ten grandchildren, and each has a painting from me as a "welcome-to-this-world" gift.
The next child received a mural for his bedroom, and then another when he and his family moved. I found that with each piece my imagination loosened, and I allowed myself to be a child as well.
Blue jungle animals, pets with hats, angels, birthday parties, banquets, all a delicious jumble of silliness, sweetness, and laughter.
I have also truly loved painting portraits of children, even with their undeveloped bones: capturing their innocence and individual personalities is a challenging and rewarding endeavor.
Although I am not a dedicated sports fan, I love to paint athletes as well, and have painted soccer stars in action, and rugby players in battle, paintings for the older kids and adults as well.
Please have a look at this small cross-section of work that I hope will inspire you to commission a piece for your own offspring!
