In 2002 I was commissioned by the University of Virginia Catholic Church to make 13 paintings that would be used as models for stained glass windows in the new addition. Wanting to avoid any obvious religious images, but intent upon conveying a sense of the spiritual, I used the circle as the defining shape for all of them. My statement is a poem of offering:

Here are the circles of joy,
Here are the circles of peace,
Here are the circles of health,
The circles of longing,
Supplication,
Of day,
And of night.
Here are the circles of love,
Here are the circles of comfort,
Here are the circles of the heavens,
The circles of the earth,
Of mystery
And acceptance.

Note: The Circle paintings were completed in late 2002 and early 2003. All the Circles are owned by St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
