A perpetual curiosity about the world and its wild mix
of inhabitants propelled me fifteen years ago to
question, observe and examine it all through the
medium of paint. I began with watercolor and quickly
moved on to oil, which is still my preferred medium.

I have had the good fortune to look at art in all the
great museums of the Western Hemisphere. I have
studied and painted with some first-rate artists, such
as Willam Slater, who is deeply connected with his
west-coast environment, with Dodie Petro and Susanne
Arnold, with Eleanor Carlyon in the Art Department of
Virginia Commonwealth University. I have listened and
absorbed and appreciated the critiques of respected
painters Dean Dass and Elizabeth Schoyer at the
University of Virginia. I count them, along with art
historians and curators Lydia Gasman, Sarah Sargent
and Lyn Rushton as invaluable teachers and friends.

My immersions in the disciplines of music, writing and
food and wine are added ingredients to my palette. I
sincerely hope that this sensuous recipe touches and
inspires the viewer in new and stimulating ways.
